What is a Tonsillectomy?
Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils. Tonsils help fight off bacteria and viruses that enter the mouth. A tonsillectomy may be needed to treat tonsillitis, sleep apnea or breathing difficulty due to enlarged tonsils.
How is a Tonsillectomy Performed?
A tonsillectomy is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. During the procedure, a member of our skilled surgical team removes the tonsils using heat, surgical tool or scalpel. After the tonsils have been removed the patient is sent to a recovery room. Once they awake, they will be able to go home. Complete recovery for a tonsillectomy may take 1-2 weeks.
Post Surgery
Pain and a sore throat is almost always experienced after having the tonsils removed. Follow the post-surgery guidelines given to you be your doctor.
