What is Acoustic Neuroma?

Acoustic neuroma is a benign tumor that develops where the inner ear attaches to the brain also know as the vestibulocochlear nerve.

If the tumor gets too large and starts to press on the brain stem or cerebellum, it can be deadly. Our team of skilled ENTs and audiologists work together to diagnose and treat acoustic neuroma before it gets to this point.

Symptoms of Acoustic Neuroma

The following are common symptoms of acoustic neuroma:

  • vertigo
  • facial weakness, numbness, tingling
  • headaches
  • problems with balance
  • confusion
  • taste changes
  • trouble swallowing

Diagnosis & Treatment

An acoustic neuroma can be diagnosed by an ENT specialist usually by performing certain hearing tests. Many times an MRI will be ordered to identify the presence of an acoustic neuroma. Treatments may include the following: Surgery, Radiation Therapy
